FlyORO has been selected as a key collaborator in Aeroporti di Roma’s (ADR) "Runway to the Future" Acceleration Program. This initiative provides ADR with an essential platform to explore and test innovative solutions aimed at enhancing operations at both Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA) airports.
Now in its third cohort, the 2024 edition of the program attracted 716 submissions from 389 innovators worldwide. ADR ultimately selected 11 companies, with FlyORO standing as the sole participant in the Sustainability vertical. This collaboration highlights ADR’s commitment to integrating transformative technologies and FlyORO’s expertise in advancing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply chain solutions.
A primary objective of this partnership is to address the challenges surrounding SAF adoption, a growing priority within the aviation industry. The collaboration will focus on the integration of FlyORO’s proprietary blending technology (AlphaLite), a scalable and efficient solution designed to meet ADR’s airline partners’ bespoke blending demands.
AlphaLite enables customized SAF blending, addressing a significant barrier: the scarcity of infrastructure to support SAF blending. Unlike traditional methods, AlphaLite allows for flexible blending at various scales, empowering airlines to integrate SAF without logistical complications. This innovation sets a new benchmark for SAF adoption, aligning with ADR’s ambitious environmental goals and the broader push toward decarbonization in aviation.
ADR, one of Europe’s leading airport operators, handled 44.4 million passengers in 2023. Their Innovation Hub, located at Fiumicino Airport, plays a key role in embedding new technologies to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability. The launch of ADR Ventures in 2023 further solidifies their dedication to identifying and supporting innovative solutions aimed at improving airport operations.
Together with FlyORO, ADR plans to explore the creation of a strategic SAF blending hub to service both FCO and CIA, potentially making these airports leaders in SAF adoption across Europe. With the RefuelEU regulation mandating a 2% SAF blend at all EU airports starting in 2025 - set to increase every five years to a 70% blend by 2050 - this collaboration positions ADR and FlyORO at the forefront of the industry’s sustainability transformation.
The integration of FlyORO’s AlphaLite technology and the development of a seamless SAF supply chain will significantly contribute to ADR’s long-term sustainability objectives. Both companies are working to meet regulatory requirements and internal ESG targets while actively shaping the future of airport sustainability on a global scale.
About FlyORO
FlyORO provides the world's first revolutionary, modular, on-demand blending service of SAF and jet fuel to enable aviation on its emissions reduction journey. As an enabler to the SAF supply chain, FlyORO enable flyers the flexibility to align their ESG targets per flight rather than be succumbed to fixed blend ratios and bulk commitments upfront. With a small form factor of 40ft, it is space efficient and portable and can be installed anywhere at or off airport base. This solution allows airport fuel operators to serve flyers more effectively with a simplified supply chain.
